This is The Pineapple, a stunning piece of garden architecture, constructed in 1761 on the Dunmore Estate. Pineapples were introduced into Britain in the reign of Charles II and because of the vast expense needed to grow them they became symbols of wealth and feature in a lot of decorative Georgian architecture. Restored in 1974 it is managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Parts of the building are let out as holiday homes. The garden itself is in ruins and is of little interest.
